MBNL Joint Venture selects Daly International as Network Consolidation Partner

MBNL (Mobile Broadband Network Limited), a joint venture between T-Mobile and 3 in the United Kingdom, has been set up to increase coverage for both companies and reduce running costs of their 3G networks.

By the end of 2009, the two companies plan to have approx. 13,000 base station sites, covering 98% of the population with a mobile broadband network capable of speeds up to 7.2 MB per second - or nearly twice the current average residential broadband speed and nearly twenty times faster than existing 3G services. Furthermore, the operators expect to save GBP2 billion (USD4 billion) over the next ten years, by decommissioning approx. 5,000 duplicate base stations.

Daly International (UK) has been awarded two contracts by MBNL to provide the key Property, Planning, Design, and Construction expertise necessary to consolidate the 3G networks of both T-Mobile and ‘3’.

MBNL’s Managing Director, Graham Payne, said:

“Daly International have a reputation for high quality and expeditious delivery. We are pleased to have them on board as a key partner in support of this challenging project”.

Daly International’s UK Managing Director, Phil Turner, said:

“We are delighted to have been selected by MBNL for this project. We have had a long association with both T-Mobile and 3 as a network deployment services provider. The speed and scale that MBNL is moving, and the issues associated with the large scale decommissioning of sites, will bring new and exciting challenges in project delivery."
